My method is one of traditional Spanish colonial
tinwork to which I have introduced contemporary materials & designs. The
primary material I use is a product called Terne metal which is roofing
steel that is coated with tin & zinc. First the metal is treated to
achieve a surface patina, then using simple traditional tools such as nails,
chisels, pliers & handmade stamps I decorate the surface by stamping,
bending & soldering & ,sometimes, coloring or reverse painting glass
additions. The larger pieces are then mounted on a wood frame. My forms are
primarily mirrors, frames, candle sconces & screens. |
